Childbirth Education

Birthing and breastfeeding classes are a great place for new parents to learn more about the labor and delivery process as well as what to expect during the postpartum period.

A childbirth class can help you and your partner create a plan for labor, delivery, the postpartum period, and newborn care. Knowing the process and what to do during it can help reduce stress when it’s actually time to give birth. Topics discussed include the birth process, techniques for pain management, medical interventions (inductions, epidurals, cesarean birth) as well as the basics of newborn care.

We always want you to have a positive breastfeeding experience. UNICEF and the World Health Organization recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months of a baby’s life and continuing as long as mom/baby desire. Scientific evidence has shown the benefits of breastfeeding for infant survival, growth and development. Breast milk provides all the nutrients an infant needs during the first six months of life. When you deliver at Waukesha Memorial Hospital, lactation specialists are always available to help you meet your goals by offering prenatal breastfeeding classes, consultations, breast pump rentals/sales and a breastfeeding help line. Please call Lactation Services at (262) 928-7650 for more information. Breastfeeding classes focus on the basics of breastfeeding, what to expect in the first few weeks, pumping, returning to work and tips for success.
